Staying compliant to the Invisalign treatment schedule your orthodontist sets out for you at the outset can save you a lot of time – and money.
What does “compliance to treatment” mean?
When we say “compliance to treatment”, we mean the extent to which you do what your orthodontist has prescribed.
Invisalign aligners must be worn full time: 22 hours a day, every day, for the duration of treatment.
If you do this, then you will be compliant, and your Invisalign treatment should go according to plan.
If you take your aligners out more frequently and for longer periods of time than prescribed, however, you may run into problems. Your treatment will end up taking longer than expected, and your teeth may shift out of position, meaning you may need extra aligners in order to finish treatment as well. This can get expensive!
That’s why it’s so important to wear your aligners full time. Your dentist designs your treatment plan around the assumption that you’ll be compliant, so if you don’t think you’ll be able to resist the urge to remove your aligners, you may be better off with braces, which cannot be removed.
