Phased interceptive orthodontics allows dentists to begin treatment early in order to take advantage of your child's continuing growth. Our Delta dentists explain how Invisalign® First for Phase 1 treatment helps to transform young smiles.
What is Phase 1 ('Interceptive') Orthodontic Treatment?
Dentists use interceptive orthodontics to diagnosis and treat misaligned teeth and other orthodontics issues before they have an opportunity to fully develop.
Treating children from 7-11 years of age, while there is still a mix of baby teeth and adult teeth, allows dentists to take advantage of continuing growth.
Phase 1 Interceptive orthodontics can help to minimize the number of extractions required when treating orthodontic issues. In many cases extractions may even be avoided altogether.
What are the goals of Phase 1 treatment?
Phase 1 treatment is used to develop young jaws and/or arches to make room for existing teeth as well as incoming adult teeth.
This approach to orthodontics can help to prevent pre-existing bite issues from getting worse, fix existing tooth misalignment issues, improve the appearance of a growing child’s smile, and make Phase 2 treatment shorter and easier.
