Invisalign Travel Essentials
When you are traveling during your Invisalign treatment, there are a lot of things to consider. Will I have access to a sink to brush my teeth? Will I have time to properly clean my aligners? While all of that has to be planned for, here are some essential tools you need to bring with you during your trip:
- Your current Invisalign tray and case
- An extra case
- Your previous tray and your next tray if you have it.
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Floss
- Mouthwash
If you are going to be traveling for an extended period of time, you may need to speak with your orthodontist to get enough trays to last the duration of the trip.
If you are flying, you will need travel sizes of toothpaste and mouthwash so you don’t have to throw them away when you go through security. If you forget or have to get rid of anything, don’t delay replacing it when you arrive at your destination.
Always Have Bottled Water Nearby
You're bound to have a bite to eat at some point during your trip. If you don't have access to your toothbrush, or a sink after eating or drinking, if you at least have a bottle of water, it can come in handy. You can swish water around your mouth to remove food particles before putting your retainer back in your mouth. You never know what could happen while traveling, so it’s being prepared is always a good thing.
Keep Up With Your Regular Dental Care
When you have Invisalign, you will likely get into the habit of brushing your teeth after snacks and meals. You may be taking a vacation from work or school, but that doesn’t mean you are taking a vacation from your dental hygiene. Keeping a bag with your Invisalign essentials listed above in a personal bag or purse is a great way to make dental care easy to manage even when you're on the go. Don’t forget to pack your aligner tray cleaning products and small disposable cups! You should still be soaking your Invisalign trays at least once a day.
When traveling with Invisalign, it is important to care of your teeth the same way you would if you were at home. You should also be sure to wear your trays for 20-22 hours per day. Following these tips will help keep your treatment progressing on schedule, no matter where you are. If you do encounter problems or have questions while you’re away, don’t hesitate to give your dentist a quick call.
Mention Your Trip To Your Dentist
It’s a good idea to speak to your dentist before your trip. With a simple call, they can help calm any worries or answer questions you may have during your trip. If any corrections need to be made to your treatment, you may want to stop in for a visit before you leave.
